Am I on the right track to be an Army Aviator?

I am a high school student right now, but when i graduate i want to apply to become a warrant officer in the army and become a pilot. I have taken some flight classes, i am gonna take more, and my dad as a long history with aviation. What else can i do to become more competitive against the other candidates. Am i on the right track so far? any other info i need to know?

once all the flight training is done, what kind of missions do uh-60 pilots do. Like their first ever missions they do.

thanks!

HOOAH!

Just graduate high school strong, and do well in College. Talk to a recruiter early on and find out what it takes to get into flight school and do that from the very beginning. And for your missions, it'll depend on what sort of unit you're attached to and what they are in need of in a pilot. Good luck and hooah

HOW OFTEN ARE ARMY AVIATOR OFFICERS HOME?

BESIDES BEING HIGHLY DEPLOYABLE AND OUT ON THE FIELD ON FLIGHT TRAININGS HOW OFTEN DO THEY GET TO COME HOME EVERYDAY IF YOU HAVE ON BASE HOUSING WITH A WIFE AND KID?

Army Aviation units deploy just as much as Infantry units if not more. Each division has 4 brigade combat teams (BCT) and 1 combat aviation brigade (CAB) with the exception of the 101st Airborne which has 2 combat aviation brigades instead of 1.

Say for example, the 101st CAB is deployed to Iraq. They do their 12 month deployment and they return home and get replaced by a CAB from another division. They should get about 12 months home before they have to deploy again.

We also have the random missions that only Aviation can accomplish that pop up like earthquake relief in Pakistan, tsunami relief in the Pacific, hurricane relief in New Orleans, etc.

Otherwise, when you're at home say at Fort Campbell. You work all day just like Officers in other combat arms branches but you will have extra tasks. You do PT, have to do your flight plans, weather briefings, collect NOTAMs, pre-flight the aircraft, manage all the maintenance on your platoon or company's aircraft, manage all the admin issues of your platoon or company, do NCOERs, and oh stay current in your aircraft, study for your checkride, etc. etc. etc. It's a lot of work but I wouldn't change it.
