AVionics Radio

Do gliders have any kind of avionics?
Radios, tansponder, anything? Can they? No electrical system, I know, but maybe a wind powered generator?
If it has a wind powered generator, then that would cause more drag, -and that would be a drag!!

A Distributed Platform for Integrated Modular Avionics $172.06 Integrated Modular Avionics (IMA), Distributed IMA (DIMA), and Modular Certification are widely discussed approaches in the aerospace community at the moment. IMA deals with the idea of sharing hardware resources and integrating several aircraft functions into one hardware unit to reduce weight, space, cabling, power consumption and costs. DIMA architectures provide more flexibility to the used hardware by splitting it up into several smaller units, distributed all over the aircraft and connected by a safetycritical communication system. Modular Certification uses the modularity provided by those systems to split their certification into several parts, which reduces development time and effort. Based on these prerequisites, the concept of a distributed and integrated platform solution is introduced. It defines the constraints and services needed for implementing a modular certifiable and flexible platform, which is able to handle all safetycritical functions in an aircraft. This book discusses the platforms attributes and certification demands, identifies its requirements and constraints and considers its applications and business opportunities. Avionics Training at Texas State Technical College
What would be some important business conacts or companies that an aircraft manufacturer would need?
like companies that make avionics, GPS, radar, radios etc?
It depends on the type of aircraft being built. The list is endless.
Boeing, for example get its aluminum from ALCOA; engines from Rolls Royce, Pratt & Whitney, and GE; and Avionics from Honeywell, wheels and tires from Goodyear, brakes from Bendix, etc, etc...
Also there are many sub-contracting companies that build major components of the aircraft, like Shorts of Ireland and Fuji Heavy Industries. Consumable items like rivets and hydraulic fluid would also be procured from the companies that produced them (Cherry, Monsanto).
Textron owns two aircraft manufacrurers (Bell and Cessna) and an engine manufacturer (Lycoming) and a rivet manufacturer (Cherry), which allows them to do business with themselves, but they still use other companies (Like Garmin for the G1000 avionics installation in Cessnas).
