Connector Yellow Tag

A little help with my speaker please?

I bought a small 0.5W loudspeaker and a 3.5mm audio cable. I cut one end of the cable off and removed some of the insulation and found 3 sets of wires inside, one insulated in black, another in white and one in yellow. I don't know much about speakers and audio connectors, and now i don't know which of those wires to connect to the loudspeaker's tags. Please tell me which is plus, which is minus and which one's extra.
Here is a shorter version of the question: how do I connect a loudspeaker to a 3.5mm cable?
Well, I tried connecting them random and one of the combinations worked. I used a phone as a music source and I think that's how I powered it. Thanks for the help, I'll look for a mono cable as well.

How are you going to power a speaker through a 3.5 mm jack? I don't think I know of any line-level output jacks for 3.5mm, <1 watt or no.

It sounds like you bought a stereo 3.5 mm jack, when you actually only want a mono jack... that way you have a hot and ground, and not a L, R, and ground.

I think L is usually "mono", but that still doesn't really help anything. You can try hooking it up by sheer guesswork, my best guess is that black is ground and white is left, or hot, but that's only assuming that the manufacturer kept to normal wire colors and didn't just use whatever they had available, wired up in whatever was most convenient for them at the time.

For the power connections on most guitar pedals the tip is negative... oh, that still doesn't help you, because the tip probably has a molded plastic casing that you can't get into without destroying it.

Well, good luck. I would experiment away and hope for the best. I still don't know how you're going to power it, if you're trying to power it with a CD player or something I think you're going to be out of luck...

Connecting netbook to tv?

basically i have this netbook

and i want to get a wire to connect it to my tv, i have a rca tv, as in yellow, white etc connectors and its not HD tv, what wire will i need to be able to do this? thanks

I'm not sure if this product has any video out function. However, if it does, it'll be VGA. This is the usually blue plug with lots of small holes in it. Because of the way it works, you won't be able to plug directly into your TV with a cable.

However, you can buy converter boxes that convert from a computer VGA signal into an RCA video signal, suitable for the TV.

You could try this, but at £40 it's a bit expensive, so try searching on ebay or amazon for something similar:

Remember to make sure that the computer has a VGA port on it as well, before you buy a converter box, VGA should look like this:
