DAVid Clark Headsets

Can someone please compare and contrast the BoseX, Lightspeed Zulu, and David Clark X11 headsets?

Anyone have any information on this?
One other question in addition. How important is the TSO rating? I looked specifically at the Bose and Zulu and Zulu isn't TSO'd.

There have been articles written both online and in magazines and while they do a good job a headset is a very personal thing. What works for one person won't necessarily work for another. I've used the Bose headsets a few times and I have to say I don't like them. They aren't bad, but I wouldn't pay a grand for them. Other people love them and say they are worth every last penny. The Zulu is likely going to be my next headset, I like its features but more importantly I like the feel.

Personally, I don't care what kind of features and metals a headset has. When it gets down to it I want 2 things. Quiet, which can be quantified and you can compare headsets on paper. And comfort, which is personal and is different for every person. I put comfort above quiet, so I have a very hard time saying one is better than another for you.

Try them out, try out as many different ones as you can find even if you think you may not like them. You just might. If you can get yourself to a large flyin you'll probably find a vendor that has a few different ones and some way to simulate noise (chair surrounded by speakers) so you can have a good test of each headsets function and comfort.

Are you sure the Zulu isn't TSO'd? I would think that it would be but it really doesn't make any difference. If you're doing any flying for hire you need either a TSO headset, or an installed speaker and microphone.

There is a pretty cool adapter for a Bose QC2 (http://www.uflymike.com) that turns it into an aviation headset. You don't want to use them for piston aircraft, but they are cool. When they first came out, they were not TSO'd. Some airlines tried to crack down on their use saying they couldn't be used because they did not have a TSO. Ultimately, they were found to be ok because the aircraft have built in (which automatically makes them ok) headsets and the qc2 were "not" used as their primary headset.

Installing a Headsets Inc. ANR System



Which headset do you prefer more for helicopter pilots, David Clark or LightSPEED?

I want to get a headset for my boyfriend for his birthday but I can only spend around $300.00. I've searched both brands of headsets, but which brand is generally better? Also, which is better, passive or active noise reduction headsets ? Is the David Clark H10-36 any good? Or is it cheap? I know its a lot of questions, and I appreciate any feedback! Thanks!
How is the Lightspeed QFR XCc and the15XLc? Are they any good?

I have the H10-36 and they get the job done every time. The price was great too. I like the mic on the H10-13H better, though, and if I were going to get a new set I would probably get those. I think they run about $60 more.

Every pilot I know uses the David Clarks, so I can't give you any feedback on the Lightspeed. The Lightspeeds may be better, I don't know, but you won't go wrong with the David Clarks. The only other ones I see anybody use are the $1000 Bose.
