Tip Strobe Kit
camera help - silouhette?
Hi,
i am a black and white photo student in my second year at a uni. one of projects is to print as 5 -6 ft mural... for this i know of a large simple stainglass arched window that i can backlight (it is in a lobby at my ballet school). I want to have a dancer in front of it doing different poses. i want her to be silouhette like. so basically look like it is sun coming through the window...
i am using a strobe light kit and 25asa ilford film... i hope this makes sense.
my question is does anybody have any tips or ideas for me?

If you look at the pic, the model is 3-4 stops or so underexposed (from meter reading) and the BG is perhaps 2-3 stops overexposed.
That difference is what creates the contrast and therefore the silhouette.
It'll be easy to underexpose the model, but strobing enough light onto a stained glass window to light it up might be an issue. The light also may be highly directional.
Before you shoot in earnest, use your meter to see what the tonal range between the model and the BG will be.
If you're not getting about 6 stops difference and nice even light, consider using a real window with natural light (which I suspect is what's done in the pic).
