Very Experimental Aircraft

electric cars- i was just reading about the 08 tesla roadster, very nice, seems efficient... even for a plane?
would electric motors implement well into experimental aircraft? im assuming the biggest challenge is the heavy battery but are they reliable enough? it seems mech. motors for air need to stand very long loads at high rpm since theres no tranny, this i propietary of an electrical motor so why hasnt anyone tried it
electric plane like Sonex and AeroConversions E-Flight Initiative http://www.batteryvehiclesociety.org.uk/wordpress/?p=218
? current flight time of 45 minutes per charge
or solar powered round the world Hy-bird due next year?http://www.batteryvehiclesociety.org.uk/wordpress/?p=188

Royal Aircraft Factory S.E.4a $98.77 Please note that the content of this book primarily consists of articles available from Wikipedia or other free sources online. The Royal Aircraft Factory S.E.4a was an experimental British singleengined scout aircraft of the First World War. Four S.E.4a aircraft were built, being used for research purposes and as homedefence fighters by the Royal Flying Corps. In spite of its type number it had little or no relationship to the earlier S.E.4. In 1915, Henry Folland of the Royal Aircraft Factory designed a new singleengined scout aircraft, the S.E.4a. While it had a similar designation to Follands earlier Royal Aircraft Factory S.E.4 of 1914, which had been designed to be the fastest aircraft in the world, the S.E.4a was fundamentally a new aircraft, intended to investigate the relationship between stability and manoeuvrability, and for possible operational use. Author: Surhone, Lambert M./ Tennoe, Mariam T./ Henssonow, Susan F. Binding Type: Paperback Number of Pages: 140 Publication Date: 2011/03/02 Language: English Dimensions: 5.98 x 9.02 x 0.33 inches |

Royal Aircraft Factory B.E.2 $98.77 Please note that the content of this book primarily consists of articles available from Wikipedia or other free sources online. The Royal Aircraft Factory B.E.2 (Bl riot Experimental) was a British singleengine twoseat biplane in service with the Royal Flying Corps (RFC) during World War I. About 3,500 were built, used as fighters, interceptors, light bombers, trainers and reconnaissance aircraft. A B.E.2a of No.2 Squadron RFC was the first aircraft of the Royal Flying Corps to arrive in France after the start of the First World War, on 26 August 1914. Royal Aircraft Factory F.E.1 $70.1 High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles The F.E.1 (Farman Experimental) was the second aircraft built by the pioneer designer Geoffrey de Havilland he designed and built it in 1910. He used it to teach himself to fly during late 1910. Although it was not built at the Royal Aircraft Factory it became the first aircraft to bear an official Factory designation. Like the Bristol Boxkite and several other contemporary designs, the F.E.1 closely followed the general lines of early Farman aircraft (in turn based on the early Wright machines), with the pilot seated on the lower wing directly in front of the engine, behind a foreelevator. It was a pusher aircraft, powered by a 45 hp (34 kW) engine built for de Havilland by the Iris Motor Company to his own design. Author: Surhone, Lambert M./ Timpledon, Miriam T./ Marseken, Susan F. Binding Type: Paperback Number of Pages: 84 Publication Date: 2010/07/15 Language: English Dimensions: 6.00 x 9.02 x 0.20 inches |

Experimental Aircraft
Homebuilt Aircraft Design ? Do or Die?
I'm reading "Dan Raymer's Simplified Aircraft Design for Homebuilders." The book is very straight forward and almost makes DESIGNING a single engine aircraft seem possible.
1)Has anyone read this book; what did you think? Know of any other good books w/ some math on the subject?
2)Do you know of anyone that's Designed their own experimental A/C and is still alive.
3)Can you trust a rotary engine? There are rebuilt 250hp supercharged RX7 engines on the homebuilt market and they're light. Any insight on rotaries?
Thank you, I need to join the EAA.
Yes, join the EAA. They have chapters all over the United States and the world for that matter. With learning some basic skills, it is very possible to build your own. A design of your own can come about over time. You can do it!
