High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles The Vultee V1A was a 1930s American singleengined airliner built by the Airplane Development Corporation and designed by Gerard Vultee.The prototype (designated the V1) was an allmetal lowwing cantilever monoplane with a retractable tailwheel landing gear. It had accommodation for a pilot and six passengers and first flew on 19 February 1933. The production aircraft were designated the V1A and had a slightly larger and longer fuselage for two pilots and eight passengers. Production ended in 1936 after 24 aircraft had been built. The BT13 Valiant is a basic trainer aircraft of World War II manufactured by Vultee Aircraft and was designed by Richard Palmer. The BT13 Valiant was flown by most American pilots during World War II. The BT13 incorporates a more powerful engine and was faster and heavier than the primary trainer. The BT13 s maiden flight was on March 1939. The BT13 had served its purpose well and it made a good aircraft to help transition many hundreds of pilots toward their advance trainers and fighters yet to be mastered. The BT13 has a crew of two for a student and instructor. It has a maximum speed of 180 mph and a range of 725 miles. It incorporates a Pratt Whitney R985AN1. The primary users and oerators of the BT13 are the USAAF and the US Navy. Curently some BTs including the BT13s are still flying though there were only limited numbers. Postwar virtually all were sold as surplus for a a few hundred dollars each. The BT13 production run outnumbered all other Basic Trainer types produced.

The Valiant was the shortest lived of the post-war V-bomber force, first flying in 1951 and with production of 104 aircraft ending in 1957 due to the official withdrawal in January, 1965 after investigation had shown that the main wing spars were suffering from metal fatigue. It operated in four versions, the B1 bomber, B(PR)1 bomber/photo-reconnaissance, B(K)1 flight refueling tanker and B(PR)K1 covering all three roles. Additionally, several aircraft were modified for a variety of special roles. The all-black B2 low-level pathfinder bomber was flown as a prototype in 1953. Valiants participated in British atomic bomb tests and made noteworthy long-distance flights, principally operating from Marham and Gaydon. In a change of task shortly before retirement, the aircraft were painted in a camouflage scheme better suited to their new low-level penetration role.
