aurora oldsmobile fuel guage needle stuck help?

can someone tell me ho to fix my aurora oldsmobile fuel guage needle, it goes to full when I fill it up, but then as I drive, it never goes below 1/2 tank on the guage. I have to use my monitor system to know when I am getting low on gas.
help!

fuel tank sending unit, also known as a "float". it is in the fuel tank. it can be an expensive job.

my fuel guage is not working we have tried all fuses and sender unit to and still nothing any more ideas?

if the fuel pump was at fault surely the car wouldnt run car is running perfect just the gauge not working

what do you mean ground wires?
my husband was going to take the dashboard bit of where the gauges are and check wiring behind them as temp gauge not working either
for chris the gauge is right at bottom wont move at all friend put meter on sender unit the day and he couldn find prob wi that he even tried to bridge it we went and filled right up and nothing
