Are there any risks in doing research with human cancer cells?

I'm doing research with prostate, breast, and pancreatic cancer cells under the supervision of PhDs, but are there any health risks (inherent or not) involved with doing cancer research? Also, is it okay that none of the researchers wear goggles at the lab benches, or is that a safety violation?

Not that I know of....

I mean.. if the research facility is in a hospital, their are risks of infection, just like working with little kids.....

Why don't you ask your supervisor about the goggles? If they arent wearing them, than they might not need to.

I do cancer research at times at the UCSD Cancer center and it's safe from what I know however most of the work I do is in the behavioral area. We do interact with sick patients at times but they have greater risk of getting sick from us than we do from them due to their compromised immune system if that is what you mean....

I want to know what is the effect of chemicals to pregnant woman?

I was pregnant about 3 months ago. But when my baby age 10 weeks in pregnancy , he died. I didn't do any heavy jobs during that period except as a student, I did some chromatography work in lab using some chemicals such as petroleum ether, hexane, chloroform, ethyl acetate and methanol. Since the fume hood is broken, all jobs conducted on lab bench only. I wonder whether those chemicals effect my baby that brought to his death.

The developing fetus is most sensative to outside influences during the first trimester which unfortionately is generally the time when someone is usually unaware of the pregnancy and is prone to either willingly or unwilling allow toxic or harmful substances into their body. The fetus is directly linked to the mother through her bloodstream, so therefore, anything in the mother's blood will also be in the embryo's blood which is unfortunate. All of the substances you mentioned are (i believe) absorable into the bloodstream and do have a toxic effect.
