How long does a thawed out vacuum sealed packaged piece of steak last? I thawed it out in the refrigerator.?

I can't remember if I took it out Thursday or Friday. So that would be 4 or 5 days ago.

Once thawed, you generally have 72 hours to cook any meat that has been sitting in a consistent refrigerated temperature of 45 degrees, or below. If you wait longer than that, you risk bacteria growth, which really starts once the meat begins to thaw..but that is another story.

If you did not have the meat marinating in something acidic like a few shots of Tequila (softens the meat and adds great flavor) or another type of acidic marinate, then you risk getting whoever eats the meat sick...

However, if you like your meat really well done ...then you may CONSIDER risking it, But I wouldn't!

If you plan to feed that to your family or friends, then don't do it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Toss it.

I have just opened a sealed package of Swiss cheese dated 01/02/08?

It is a vacuumed packed sliced natural swiss cheese from the local major grocery store I was going to dice up and put in a salad, but I just noticed the date on it is Jan 02, 2008. IS IT STILL SAFE TO USE THIS CHEESE IN MY SALAD TODAY?

Yes, it is still safe. Even if it had mold growing on it, as long as you cut the mold off, it is safe. One nice thing about cheese...it will last a while
