Technology Library
Do you think the human populace will become too reliant on technology in the future?

Example-Instead of going to the library to get a book, they will just download it on their iPhone.

It's pretty apparent in the world we live in today. If someone wants to learn about something, odds are that they'll Google it over looking it up at the local library. When it comes to researching materials, I think the Internet has its advantages because it is faster and more efficient, when you manage to bypass all the crap and advertisements out there.

In some sense, survival would be nearly impossible for most people if it wasn't for technology, so you could say that we all are reliant on technology to some extent in order to live our day to day lives. If it wasn't for refrigeration, we couldn't have stockpiles of biodegradable food, and so on.

There are probably very few people out there who could get by in the woods with nothing more than a hatchet, a gun, and some matches. I can only imagine that aside from any major catastrophe that destroyed electronics world wide, people will become increasingly more reliant on technology as time continues.

Ironically, a large proportion of technical publications and scientific data is not found online: 70 percent of the information found in the patent literature section of a typical sci-tech library is unavailable elsewhere, and there are estimated to be 100,000 unique scientific journal titles. Science and technology library materials continue to be vital to the advancement of scientific knowledge. This book is a practical guide to science and technology resources, providing cutting-edge practices and tools in library and information science, as well as a historical perspective on science and technology resources. Science and Technology Resources: A Guide for Information Professionals and Researchers begins with an overview of the nature of sci-tech literature, the information-seeking behavior of scientists and engineers, and an examination of the research cycle. Each of the 12 chapters focuses on a specific format, showcasing specific examples and representative resources in current practice. This text will be invaluable to librarians, information specialists, engineering and science professionals, and students interested in acquiring a practical knowledge of science and technology resources. The comprehensive subject bibliographies provide a sci-tech library administrator with the resources to develop and maintain an effective science, technology, and engineering collection.

Shock Waves Science and Technology Library (Hardcover)

Shock Waves Science and Technology Library (Hardcover)

$359.55

This book, as a volume of the Shock Wave Science and Technology Reference Library, is primarily concerned with the fundamental theory of detonation physics in gaseous and condensed phase reactive media. The detonation process involves complex chemical reaction and fluid dynamics, accompanied by intricate effects of heat, light, electricity and magnetism - a contemporary research field that has found wide applications in propulsion and power, hazard prevention as well as military engineering. The seven extensive chapters contained in this volume are: - Chemical Equilibrium Detonation (LE Fried and S Bastea) - Steady One-Dimensional Detonations (A Higgins) - Detonation Instability (HD Ng and F Zhang)- Dynamic Parameters of Detonation (AA Vasiliev)- Multi-Scaled Cellular Detonation (D Desbordes and HN Presles)- Condensed Matter Detonation: Theory and Practice (C Tarver)- Theory of Detonation Shock Dynamics (JB Bdzil and DS Stewart) The chapters are thematically interrelated in a systematic descriptive approach, though, each chapter is self-contained and can be read independently from the others. It offers a timely reference of theoretical detonation physics for graduate students as well as professional scientists and engineers.

Due to the Least Restrictive Environment provision of Federal law, there is a growing trend in the United States of providing services to students with special needs in inclusive general education classrooms. By extension, school library media specialists are major allies in providing materials and information skills education to students with disabilities. It is unclear whether media specialists have received the training to evaluate collection materials, recommend and implement assistive technologies, or use effective educational techniques in providing information skills instruction to students with disabilities. The purpose of this study was to assess current practices of school librarians in the provision of materials and services to students with disabilities. Topics covered in the survey included; collection development, interlibrary loan, transfer of information skills, current budget levels, and amount of finances set aside for materials that serve this student group. Recommendations for further study are also given. A digital library is a library in which collections are stored in digital formats (as opposed to print, microform, or other media) and accessible by computers. The digital content may be stored locally, or accessed remotely via computer networks. A digital library is a type of information retrieval system. The DELOS Digital Library Reference Model defines a digital library as: An organization, which might be virtual, that comprehensively collects, manages and preserves for the long term rich digital content, and offers to its user communities specialized functionality on that content, of measurable quality and according to codified policies. The first use of the term digital library in print may have been in a 1988 report to the Corporation for National Research Initiatives. The term digital libraries was first popularized by the NSF/DARPA/NASA Digital Libraries Initiative in 1994. These draw heavily on As We May Think by Vannevar Bush in 1945, which set out a vision not in terms of technology, but user experience.
