Languages to be a pilot?

Do any pilots know if it is useful to learn foreign languages and become fluent in them to be a pilot for a major airline? I am asking this because i am thinking of learning German and Chinese and i plan on becoming a pilot.

Thanks

So many wrong answers....

ICAO states that countries can use their own language for ATC purposes,
BUT they must also be fluent in at least one of the ICAO recognised languages also, so that they can communicate with aircrew who do not speak the local language.

In reality, it works the other way round. Countries tend to work in 1 of the recognised languages, and only use the local language for local pilots who can't speak one of the recognised ones.

Fortunately for you, English is one of those languages ( I can't tell you all of them - there are about 5, because i simply can't remember which they are). nearly everyone uses English, so you would gain nothing by studying extra languages.

Why are the Chinese communist?

They always seem to be mad at the US. Why is that? Is it because we didn't really stick up for them during WWII? I know we sent pilots one time to help shoot down japanese bombers. Still why have they sided with the Russians on communism?

Philosophical and Political Ideology

They believe in a Stagnant economy, and controlled society, No free will, no free thought, No incentives, Ect ect
