Engine Mounting
How do I replace the rubber washer on my engine mounts of my 92 camry?
I have a 92 camry, 125,000 miles, I love it ( well,it's my wife's) I have been driving it since she's been sick and unable to drive. When I am in idle, it vibrates to beat all. I can see the rubber washer on the top of the engine mount is cracked and some of it is missing, easy to replace it? and any danger or special equipment needed?
NO ONE SAFETY PART. (Read fully first).
Read workshop manuel on finer points firstly and.
Take car to a suitable level workshop and
Disconnect the battery (Both wires ) Black first 'negative'
Remove battery and put in safe position away from people.
Number Two saftey.
Let vehicles engine cool down
to avoid burns.
Disconnect top radiator hose to avoid breaking rad
when motor is elevated. (Refill with appropriate liquid)
Then have a look at the nuts both on top and below the engine
mount, find socket or ring spanner to fit loosen top first and
remove and put aside.
Jack vehicle up with garage jack so vehicle is high enough
around 15 inches should do.
Put Safety stands underneath car's chassis and lower jack
till car is supported on safety stands,
leave jack there for safety.
Loosen off lower engine mount nut and put aside.
Get second jack and put small block of wood underneath
thin engine sump (Taking care not to bend sump)
and jack ( just the engine) to separate
and take load off
engine mount, remove engine mount. YES!
Take old engine mount in second vehicle to parts shop
and get same shape and size mount from parts tech.
Reverse procedure and put together again with new mount.
Make sure all electrical wires are safely away from motor
and / or moving parts.. start test... spin around block..
send jack back.. Celebrate and have a cola !
Obey all saftey and repair laws Firstly.
Tell wife the good news you just saved a fortune.
