what is the best carb for my classic?
I have a 1967 mustang. It has a 289 engine in it and an automatic transmission. all stock. I need to get a new carb for it and was wondering what kind I should get. It has a 2bbl holley on it, but I was wanting to put a 4bbl edelbrock on it. I am just getting into cars within the last few months. The engine is rebuilt, but there are no major modifications done to it. The transmission is being overhauled as we speak. The only modification that I am doing to it is adding a shift kit to make for a smooth shifting. I want a carb that will be able to handle the modifications that I do down the road like possibly putting in a 302 or 351. If you know the part number of the carb include it. I am not trying to hot rod it out, but I would like to hear the chirp of my tires. Like I said, I am just now learning about cars and have gotten a lot of smart a$$ comments, please be serious. In addition please write a little on why you would choose a specific carb.
390 holley will work good on a 289, for a 351 your gonna want 600 or more cfm. i have a 70 duster 340 with a 750 holley dp but its a high performance motor. i had a 73 duster 318 and it performed better with the original 2 barrel setup. just changing an intake and carb isnt going to do a whole lot, the real power comes from the heads and cam. an engine is an air pump the more air in and out faster=more power.
