Convert current 1 wire alternator to 3 wire set up?
I have a '79 Corvette recently purchased, has a chromed 100A alternator connect only via one wire (BAT terminal on alternator) to the battery (in rear passenger compartment).
I would like to use a "voltage sense wire" connected to a central point of distribution, as well as a "field exciter wire" connected to the ignition switch.
I feel the "normal" 3 wire alternator hook up is the better solution when you are running high current need applications such as audio, electric fan, MSD/HEI spark in additon to charging, headlights, wipers etc. I do not feel the battery is currently being charged well.
My question is:
As long as the alt. (appears to be a Delco-Remey "like" 10SI) has the 2 terminals on the back upper edge of the case (contacts from internal voltage regulator....currently covered by a black rubber cover/plug) marked 1 & 2....can I use these as the voltage sense wire (term 2 ???) and the field power 12 v. in from the ignition switch (term 1 ???).

I can't see why you wouldn't be able to.
The internals are the same, and as you stated the alternator will work much better.
Some people think the one wire system is cleaner, but it is not better.

Dodge caravan won't start.?
Starter tested fine, no fire in the exciter wire. Checked ignition switch wire, have one hot. Please help.
if it is cranking and not starting try a crank sensor
