How would you simulate power losses on a transmission line in a lab?

I am doing a lab investigating the effects of humidity on the efficiency of transmission lines (i.e. power losses) and I am not sure what is the best way to simulate the power transmission lines in a lab (what I have right now is a simple circuit--the battery is the power source (as opposed to, say, hydro power) and the transmission lines are the copper wires that will deliver the electricity to a light bulb (as opposed to homes) and the humudity...i still have to find a way to make that a variable) Any ways, just to let you know I do not mind anyone spoiling the fun by revealing the results of the lab (e.g. no effect whatsoever) along with telling me the soundness of this simulation.

Thanks a lot!!!

At the low voltage and short length of wire you will have available,
you're going to have to multiply the effect of the presence of
water vapor radically to see any effect at all.
There are differences in 'corona discharge between D.C. and A.C.
currents.
There are differences in the effects of vapor, and droplets. (Fog).
Try omitting the light bulb and just measuring current between the
wires with an open circuit .
Damping blotting laid paper between your wires, (battery current only), won't be an accurate simulation , but you will see a loss.

Your best bet might be to be again omit the light bulb, stretch your
two bare wires close together down a long tube into which
you can introduce vapor, (start with dry air in the tube),
***CAREFULLY*** use house current instead of your low voltage
battery if your instructor will permit, and measure any current flow
between your wires with the most sensitive meter you can get.
The 'open circuit' flow will represent any transmission loss.

Uninterrupted Power Supply (UPS) for laboratory instruments

Home made lab power supply?

Guys I need help, I am making a lab power supply from a computer power supply. But I don't know the wire to turn it on (DC power on). Its usually a green wire but there is no green wire. I am using a Dell PS-5201-7D. ATX 200 watt GX1 Optiplex.
More info here:http://www.wikihow.com/Convert-a-Computer-ATX-Power-Supply-to-a-Lab-Power-Supply
I know that the wire is located on some where on P1. Dell gives this info on other power supplies but not this one it seems. http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/ban_gx1/power.htm

Alright I dug out an old Dell 4600 ATX power supply. P-1 plug is the main board 20 pin. Position: lock tab up, wires in your hand towards you. From the right side, top row of wires. Count in 4 wires, it is a green wire. Only one in the loom. This PSU is in size approx. 3.5 X 5.5 X6 inches. Looked at the link you left, both types appear smaller. Would not think Dells PSU vender would swap wires around. Hope it helps.
