Lathe $86.03 A lathe is a machine tool which spins a block of material to perform various operations such as cutting, sanding, knurling, drilling, or deformation with tools that are applied to the workpiece to create an object which has symmetry about an axis of rotation. Lathes are used in woodturning, metalworking, metal spinning, and glassworking. Lathes can be used to shape pottery, the bestknown design being the potters wheel. Most suitably equipped metalworking lathes can also be used to produce most solids of revolution, plane surfaces and screw threads or helices. Ornamental lathes can produce threedimensional solids of incredible complexity. The material can be held in place by either one or two centers, at least one of which can be moved horizontally to accommodate varying material lengths. Other workholding methods include clamping the work about the axis of rotation using a chuck or collet, or to a faceplate, using clamps or dogs. Lathe (Metal) $71.7 High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles A metal lathe or metalworking lathe is a large class of lathes designed for precisely machining relatively hard materials. They were originally designed to machine metals; however, with the advent of plastics and other materials, and with their inherent versatility, they are used in a wide range of applications, and a broad range of materials. In machining jargon, where the larger context is already understood, they are usually simply called lathes, or else referred to by morespecific subtype names toolroom lathe, turret lathe, etc.. These rigid machine tools remove material from a rotating workpiece via the typically linear movements of various cutting tools, such as tool bits and drill bits. The design of lathes can vary greatly depending on the intended application; however, basic features are common to most types. These machines consist of a headstock, bed, carriage, and tailstock. Better machines are solidly constructed with broad bearing surfaces slides or ways for stability, and manufactured with great precision. Lathe of Heaven $8.91 Rated: NASynopsis: The Lathe of Heaven was a made-for-cable remake of the 1980 TV movie of the same name, both based upon the futuristic novel by Ursula K. LeGuin. Former child star Lukas Haas is effectively cast as George Orr, an otherwise ordinary man who experiences extraordinary dreams. When the visions in his head begin coming true -- and even seem to be altering reality -- the anguished Orr consults psychiatrist Walter Haber (James Caan), which is the first of many miscalculations on the part of the protagonist. Dr. Haber intends to harness George's "talent" to bring his own peculiar notion of Utopia to full fruition. Will the fabric of the space-time continuum unravel as Haber plots and plans and Orr's dreams become more and more frightening? And how does Orr's extremely skeptical (and ravishingly beautiful) lawyer Heather LaLache (Lisa Bonet) figure into all this? Lathe of Heaven made its A&E cable network bow on September 8, 2002. SINGLE POINT THREAD CUTTING ON A MANUAL LATHE
basic lathe problem - anyone?
i am not getting my stock material inserted centrally. How can one put a piec of material in to be exactly centre.
this is a manual lathe. I insert the piece and tap it until it the gap between the material decrease. I am left with a gap of about 1-2mm. when i run the lathe the cutting tool should cut the circumfurence equally and consistently when i just touch the material. this is the best method of checking if in fact it rally is centered. Need tips .thanks in adv.....ance
You need a 4 jaw chuck. Run a dial test indicator against the outside of the job, and tighten the jaws two at a time until the tdi shows no motion as you rotate the chuck. You can easily get it within a mil or so by this technique.
