Replace the Wrist pin or buy a new motor?

I have a '97 Toyota Camry and a wrist pin needs to be replaced. The car has over 200k miles on it so would it be a better idea to just replace the wrist pin or get a new motor? Also, what would be the est. price on wrist pin, pistons (im sure they need to be replaced) and labor?

Check around for places that sell used motors taken out of cars from Japan. I know it sounds crazy....but Japan has no car junk yards...too crowded there. Wrecked cars are chopped and only the best non-damaged parts are kept. Most of these parts are sold to companies here in the USA...mostly the motors. You can often get a motor with less than 50,000 miles on it....and they are way cheaper than getting one rebuilt.

I'm not sure where you live, but check the Yellow Pages and look under ' Salvage motors'.

I got a complete motor for $500....and cost me another $350 to put it in.

what is the most accurate way to diagnose a piston pin knock?does a collapsed lifter make same noise?

The sounds of valve train vs rotating assembly are distinctly different. A lifter would be a tick type noise. A piston noise would be a deeper sound. Piston noise is sometimes like rod bearing noise, piston noise will change considerably when the plug wire is removed while rod noise won't change much.
