why negetive voltage( -24v DC) is used for measuring the vibrations of Steam turbine, generator?

You are probably referring to a proximity probe, and specifically a probe manufacturered by Bently Nevada (now GE Power). Actually the negative DC voltage is bias power that the sensor requires in order to return a voltage (also negative) corresponding to the actual gap between the sensor tip and the target. The gap between the sensor and target must be set prior to using the probe at a distance relative to the probe sensitivity, this gap varies depending on what type of probe is being used. The output DC voltage from the signal conditioner used by the probe can be checked to set the gap. At the far end of the sensitivity range, the output voltage may be close to -24 VDC. As this gap decreases the voltage becomes more positive and at a nearly closed gap it is almost 0 VDC.

There is no good reason for this supply voltage or output voltage to be negative, as other types of proximity probes use positive bias voltage. I suspect that the Bently company used a minus bias voltage for product protection. They have been selling their hardware for 50 years, so it's impossible to switch now.

Gas Turbine Blade Vibration

Gas Turbine Blade Vibration

Blade vibration is one of the most significant causes of high cycle fatigue failure in gas turbine engines. A correctly conducted modal analysis can accurately predict the values of natural frequency. The most commonly used tool for such purpose is software based on Finite Element Method. Compared to experimental tests it is less costly, more time efficient and can incorporate phenomena which are not possible to include in experimental measurements. To perform such analysis correctly one must be aware of several significant parameters that should not be omitted in the model definition. This work focuses on main influencing factors such as working temperature, rotational speed, blade root stiffness and examines their effects. In addition it studies the importance of boundary conditions in the FEM model and verifies possible geometrical simplifications that could optimize the solution process. This analysis should be useful to engineers working on turbine blade vibration. The conclusions contained in the work can serve as guidelines for optimizing the process of turbine blade modal analysis and may help FE software users to obtain most accurate results in the least time. Sunforce 600w Marine Wind Turbine

Sunforce 600w Marine Wind Turbine

Sunforce 600w Marine Wind Turbine . Precision-molded, aerodynamic fiberglass blades ensure quiet performance and minimal vibration. Turbine output is 3 phase AC, reducing power loss over longer wire lengths, that is then converted to DC at the controller. Microprocessor-based controller provides voltage regulation of either 12 or 24V output, peak power tracking, and silent stall control in high winds (see more info below). At sea the increased blade tip angle improves ability of blades to both engage wind at low speeds as well as shifting the point at which blades would typically flutter in high winds to a point above the rotational speed allowed by the unit's electronic controls. In port, hysteresis braking locks the turbine in a silent regulation mode once the batteries are fully charged, preventing the turbine from fluctuating in and out of regulation mode. The result is quieter, more unobtrusive operation both under sail and when docked. The tail-fin of this marine turbine model is

Machine Vibration Analysis and Health Monitoring

Machine Vibration Analysis and Health Monitoring

$106.74

This book describes a methodology for early fault detection and diagnostics in an ocean turbine using vibration analysis and Finite Element Modeling. This methodology relies on the use of advanced methods for machine vibration analysis and health monitoring. Because of some issues encountered with traditional methods such as Fourier analysis for non stationary rotating machines, the use of more advanced methods such as TimeFrequency Analysis is required. This book also includes the development of two LabVIEW models. The first model combines the advanced methods for online condition monitoring. The second model performs the modal analysis to find the resonance frequencies of the subsystems of the turbine. The dynamic modeling of the turbine using Finite Element Analysis is used to estimate the baseline of vibration signals in sensors locations under normal operating conditions of the turbine. All this information is necessary to perform the vibration condition monitoring of the machine. Vibration Analysis of Tapered Composite Materials

Vibration Analysis of Tapered Composite Materials

$183.21

Tapered composite beams formed by terminating or droppingoff some of the plies from primary structure are being used in various engineering applications. Because of their structural tailoring capabilities, damage tolerance and potential for creating significant weight savings in helicopter yoke, robot arms and turbine blades, tapered composite beams have received much attention from engineers and researchers. Design of mechanical components using tapered composite beams requires a better understanding of their behavior on free and forced vibrations.Free and forced vibration analysis including the effects of axial force and damping of tapered composite beams is conducted using conventional, and higherorder finite elements and the RayleighRitz method. Composite beam samples are manufactured and tested for the determination of mechanical properties and damping loss factor.A detailed parametric study is conducted to investigate the effects of boundary conditions, laminate configuration, taper configurations, taper angle, the ratio of the length of the thick section to the length of thin section, axial force, and damping. Wind Turbine Vibration Noise

New 600+ HP ZR1 Corvette, really, what’s the point?

http://www.speedtv.com/articles/newmodels/automotive/42175/

The present Z06 with 500+ HP is already virtually un-drivable in any real world condition(except for a pool-table smooth race-track), has clunky shifting, excessive noise vibration and harshness, iffy-quality interior for a 70K plus car. My Dad’s 69 T-Top 427 modified Stingray was the BEST thing since sliced bread…until our neighbor took me for a ride in his 911 which had half the HP, and promptly shattered all my preconceived notions of what constitutes a real performance car. In terms of pricing, the Corvette may look like a great deal. But 2 Nissan’s 350Z’s don’t add up to a 911 when you do the math...strapping a turbine engine in a YUGO may be able to turn 5 second 1/4 mile times, but you would'nt want to live with that either.

I get to drive both a late model Corvette and a Porshe all the time and perfer the Corvette. The new Corvette will beat the 69 427ci in ALL catagory's hands down, way quicker, faster on top end and no contest in handling. The new S55 Mercedes that is pushing 3 tons is as fast or faster than a turbo Carerra as well as being able to wipe out a 69 427ci Vette in the 1/4 mile and it weighs almost a ton and a half more.

Don't worry about performance in cars, just buy what makes you happy. I have only seen "ricers" speeding in traffic and never see the exotic's, Vettes, Porsche endangering lives like the low horsepower Fast and Furious crowd does. Using this as logic, low horsepower equals less responsibility, and more danger to the rest of the driving public.... we need MORE horsepower.
