How do I extract data from a damaged laptop hard drive into another computer?

I am trying to fix my cousin's laptop. She spilled water near it and now it won't turn on. I am attempting to pull the hard drive and hopefully store the data elsewhere. How can I accomplish this? Is there some universal adaptor kit which could power the harddrive and link it up to another laptop via usb?

Please help or recommend any suggestions.

Provided that the drive itself isn't damaged, you can use a USB to IDE adapter (see link below), and extract the data from the drive. If the drive is damaged, then you might have to take it to a data recovery service, and they aren't cheap, had first hand experience with that.

USB kingston data traveller 2 not recognized by my pc despite?

I hv PIII Intel Chipset 810 board. USB card is installed and HP printer is working well on that card. But kingston data traveller 2 is not identified despite I downlaoded and installed the driver from kingston website and that is correct driver. Driver error show. Also PCI Universal Serial Bus is showing as unknown device in device manager. What shd I do/

From your description, it looks like the drivers for your USB controller is missing. You should download the drivers for the "PCI Universal Serial Bus", they are not "Kingston" drivers. Find out what brand is your USB card and go to its website, download the drivers for that card and you should be all set. Remember, each device in your computer requires its own drivers. Good luck
