Wood Aircraft

Balsa wood or styrofoam aircraft model is better?
Which one is better depending on strength and result when tested in wind tunnel experiment.
technologically, styrofoam one is easier to build from.
Balsa wood construction should be more lightweight.
regarding the tunnel-> i don't really understand this part. wind tunnel trials are performed for AIRFOILs and other SHAPES, not constructions. i mean, most wind tunnel models i've seen were either polyester models or solid wood, something cheap to work with and relative easy to grinde, drill, and hone while being sturdy enough to NOT disintegrate in mid-test, resulting in the tunnel fan damage.
(the crucial part in the wind tunnel performance is the airfoil and SKIN of the model.)

Wood Aircraft Construction
I want to build myself a model aircraft, what is the best material to use for this?
I want to design my own aircraft entirely, and haven't decided yet whether it will be able to get airborne.
I am new to this, so it will mostly just be making it up as I go along and seeing what works.
What is the best material to make it out of? I hear balsa wood is a good material for it.
There is the traditional balsa and the more recent depron sheet foam - you can build your design relatively quickly and get it airborne with the appropriate radio gear and propulsion system
Check this site out to give you a scope on your design:

My suggestion is to start off simple and as you pick up things and learn, your designs can be more complex
Hope this helps and enjoy!!

I don't really know, but I'll point out that wood veneer can be made _very_ thin, so it is possible that the "heat release" could be quite low.
