Can you recommend a good printed guide to buying a used GA, single engine, airplane?

I tell a co-worker that I am going to get a Cessna 150 for recreating and sightseeing on the weekends.

He proceeds to tell me that they are death traps, thousands of accidents are listed in NTSB database, the yoke can fall off into your hand, they are too light for safe aviation, underpowered, our base elevation is too high for that airplane, might as well change all the cables and pulleys before my first flight, etc. Wow! He owns a Piper, so I take all this with a grain of salt. But it did get me thinking.

I have found a few guides for buying a Cessna 150 but I was wondering if you have a favorite?

There's a book called “How To Buy A Single-Engine Airplane” by a guy named Scott "Sky" Smith. I know him, he's a good guy, and he give a good account of what to do when pruchasing your airplane. I highly reccommend that book. Also, talk to an aircraft broker or dealer. They can be a valuable source of information about any aircraft model you are looking for. The more homework you do, the better prepared that you are, so I suggest you read everything that you can.

Also, for the guy who tells you that the Cessna 150 is a death trap, tell him he's an idiot. The Cessna 150 has one of the best safety records for it's class, and the model has millions of hours on it. Sure, there are accidents, but none are really associated with the design of the aircraft. Many are due to it's age (so get it checked thoroughly by a mechanic) and many are due to pilot error (so get yourself checked thoroughly by a CFI). They are no more dangerous than any other aircraft in that class.

Looking for a camcorder for flying in single engine airplane?

It needs have an input for an external micrphone for an intercom connection, handle vibration, have some level of optical zoom, built in stabilization, tape... What is the best value? I will likely put the video on DVD and also web. ANy ideas?
Nick, thanks but I am not interested in spending $1,750-$2,000. Any other thoughts? Is there a new version of the Canon Eula 100 coming? Heard it is discontinued..

The cheapest camcorder I know of with the features you want is the Canon GL2. It does have optical image stabilization, which is much better than digital stabilization. For an airplane, however, you may want to consider some sort of shock-absorbing mount because the stabilization will only remove very small vibrations.
