Will a manual BMW m52 engine fit into an automatic car?
Dear People,
I have an automatic BMW 523 touring 1998.
It needs a new engine the current one is blowing blue smoke.
Will a manual engine fit or will I need to get hold of donor automatic replacement engine also.
My current engine is of model no: BMW M52 256S3 VANOS the vehive is an automatic.

as far as i know the Engine itself is the same in an auto as it would be in a stick there are very few cars that the engine will be different
only experience i have is that iv worked on hundreds of cars over my life done every things from rebuilding/replacing engines to body work never taken and course or class just letting you know lol
I don't know how long your car has been blowing smoke but that doesn't necessarily mean you need a new motor could be Valve seals or something repairable believe it or not sometimes High mileage Oil will reduce the amount of smoke alot or an oil treatment like lucas
