How do I realistically paint a camoflague pattern on 1/72 plane kits like the FW-190 and ME-109?

I noticed that on the fuselage, the paint which can be a light gray or almost sky blue has a "smokey" or feathery edge to it. NOT sharp edges like the olive green on gray you see on British Hawker Hurricanes or Spitfires. How do I go about in doing the German paint scheme? Thanks.

The BEST way is with an airbrush with a fine or very-fine needle. An airbrush will cost about $90-150, and a compressor will cost about $200. BUT if you're going to paint models, it is WELL worth it.

You can ALSO get that feathered edge with spray-paint IF you mask with card-stock cut to the right shape and then raised about 1/16th or 1/8th inch above the airframe. Just enough spray paint will "mist" under the card-stock to give you the feathered-edge.

I used that technique for years before I bought my first airbrush.

You need whats called an airbrush. They are not expensive.
