Mercury Optimax
Hot Water coming out of the front of a MERCURY 200 optimax outboard?
I was driving my boat when i noticed there was hot water coming out of the front of the outboard motor. I thought the water cooling pump was leaking but there is still a very strong stream of water coming out of the pee hole when the water was leaking.
I don't have a camera but the water seems to be coming from the front of the cowl were the wires coming from the boat go into the motor.
Where out of the front? Can you post a link to picture, or give a better description. This is not good, do not run the engine until we get this diagnosed.
Thanks for the addtional details. Because the cooling system is quite complicated on DFI engines, this may be a little hard to track down. Some the possiblities are:
-If you have a speedometer, water pressure gauge, or Smartcraft, it could be the water pressure tube from the block, or the speedometer pickup assembly which exits from the back of the block.
-Could also be one of the cooling hoses from the fuel rails and vapour seperator.
-Could also be one of the dump hoses from the top of the cylinder heads.
I think what you should do is remove the cowl, and while having someone else start the engine, ahve a good look and see where the water is coming from. You should be able to see the problem quickly. I would not run the engine for more than about 30 seconds until you dicover the problem. Good luck.

Mercury 200 optimax outboard starts to rev up when u shift it into neutral?
Mercury 200 optimax outboard starts to rev up when u shift it into neutral (but the prop is not spinning) It usually happens when i slow down and shift into neutral is when it happens.
Sounds like a faullty IAC (idle air control) sensor. Have this confirmed with a CDS scan at a Merc dealer.
