B2B Reverse Auctions A Critical Evaluation

Scholary Paper aus dem Jahr 2002 im Fachbereich Wirtschaft Marketing, Unternehmenskommunikation, CRM, Marktforschung, einseitig bedruckt, Note: 1,3 (A), European Business School Internationale Universit t Schlo Reichartshausen OestrichWinkel (Marketing Cluster), Veranstaltung: Seminar: ECommerce Marketing, 29 Eintragungen im Literaturverzeichnis, Sprache: Englisch, Abstract: B2B online, reverse auctions are said to revolutionize the traditional way suppliers and buyers do business. In 2001, General Electric expected to generate up to 600 million in savings by organizing their procurement through the means of online, reverse auctions. In 2000 Forrester Research estimated that B2B online, reverse auctions would reach 52 billion in revenue by the end of 2002. A benchmark study by CAPS Research stated that 1,5 of todays purchases are made through electronic auctions.Even studies considered conservative believe that 10 of all procurement budgets, which total 4,1 trillion in the U.S., could be spent through reverse auctions. That would mean over 400 billion spent through reverse auctions would create savings of up 50 billion, taking into account a conservative savings rate of 12. These savings make up 0,5 of the USGIP. These are impressive numbers for a simple procurement tool, and they have persisted through the end of the online hype and the decline of the new markets in 2001 and 2002. Do these numbers represent true savings, finally holding the promise of B2B ecommerce? Or do they just delude other consequences?Because the practice of online, reverse auctions came into being only recently, it is too early to ascertain long term consequences. Thus, this paper will draw a first overview of the shortterm positive and negative consequences on behalf of the buyer and the supplier. Author: R. V. Full performer name: Kenny Burrell/John Coltrane/Tommy Flanagan. In 1957, the greatest year for recorded music including modern jazz, Detroit was a hot spot, a centerpiece to many hometown heroes as well as short-term residents like John Coltrane and Miles Davis. It was here that Trane connected with pianist Tommy Flanagan, subsequently headed for the East Coast, and recorded this seminal hard bop album. In tow were fellow Detroiters -- drummer Louis Hayes, bassist Doug Watkins, and guitarist Kenny Burrell, with the fine trumpeter from modern big bands Idrees Sulieman as the sixth wheel. From the opening number, the classic "Minor Mishap," you realize something special is happening. Flanagan is energized, playing bright and joyous melody lines, comping and soloing like the blossoming artist he was. Coltrane is effervescent and inspired, hot off the presses from the Miles Davis Quintet and searching for more expressionism. The other hard bop originals, "Eclypso" and "Solacium," easily burn with a cool flame not readily associated with East Coast jazz. Flanagan himself is the catalyst more than the horns -- dig his soaring, animated solo on "Eclypso" as he quotes "Jeepers Creepers." The near 12-minute blues "Tommy's Tune" is the perfect vehicle for Burrell, a prelude for his classics of the same period "All Day Long" and "All Night Long." The lone trio session, on the standard "How Long Has This Been Going On?," is regarded as quintessential Flanagan, and quite indicative of the Midwestern Motor City flavor Flanagan and his many peers brought into the mainstream jazz of the day and beyond. One yearns for alternate takes of this session. The Cats is a prelude to much more music from all of these masters that would come within a very short time period thereafter, and cannot come more highly recommended. It's a must-buy for the ages. ~ Michael G. Nastos

FOREWORD When I decided to compile a book of stories to emphasize the fact that cats are very sensitive, intelligent and capable of affection, I did not realize how much had been written already about them. It has been a difficult task to select from a great volume of material a comparatively few examples of genuine intelligence and of real affection in cats. In spite of a general belief to the contrary, cats do often display the warmest attachment to their owners. They even show a frequent ability to travel and to adapt themselves to new places, if only the beloved owner is there. A great many books have been written about cats. The reader will probably be surprised to learn how many famous persons have loved cats and been loved by them in return. Many of the earliest books, particularly those dating back to 1900s and before, are now extremely scarce and increasingly expensive. We are now republishing these classic works in affordable, high quality, modern editions, using the original text and artwork. Author: Eddy, S. J. Internet Auctions begins with the introduction of the basic settings, concepts, and processes that are the building blocks of auction research. It then focuses on the transition from preInternet auction research to more recent topics. Special attention is given to research opportunities as well as to experimental methods that can provide both laboratory and field data to answer important questions. Internet Auctions reviews recent empirical and theoretical works on Internet auctions with a focus on Internet auction design, formats, and features that are currently debated in the marketing literature. Some of these issues are extensions of general auction topics, but the findings can be quite different in Internet environments. This volume examines new design features that are particularly relevant to Internet auctions such as feedback ratings, buyitnow options, and different closing rules. The authors also look at strategic and behavioral models that are shaping marketing research on Internet auctions. While much of this analysis is grounded in economics, there is less focus on economic theory and a greater focus on managerial questions. Author: Haruvy, Ernan/ Popkowski Leszczyc, Peter T. L. Fair resource allocation plays an important role in determining the end performance of any computer system. Depending on the nature of resources and the mode of sharing, usually algorithms are implemented either in hardware or in software to guarantee fairness in resource sharing. These algorithms are generally complex and make the job of design verification difficult. Hence one can think of designing simpler algorithms, those would reduce the difficulty during design verification without losing much on the system performance. One such approach can be to have the competing agents specify their valuations for the resources. A central allocator listens to the valuations and takes allocation decisions accordingly. As the allocation is done solely depending on the valuations given by the agents, one needs to ensure truthfulness of the agents. In such cases we can view the resource allocation problem as a mechanism design problem. We investigate how the problem of page allocation in DSM multiprocessors can be solved using multiparameter auctions. We formulate the page allocation problem as a multiparameter auction and find out truthfulness conditions for such multiparameter auctions.
