Rotax Airplane Engines

Could I use a snowmobile engine on my ULTRALIGHT airplane trike?

I want to make one of those super light flex wing style trikes.

Would I need a reduction drive if I used a snowmobile engine?

People always say to use rotax motors, and rotax motors were used on snowmobiles so I'm thinking any snowmobile engine is a possibility

my motor budget is about 400$

Snowmobile engines were often (and sometimes still are) used on ultralights. The Rotax 2-stroke engines were all derived from snowmobile engines, they they've been developed for aircraft use. Converting a snowmobile engine is not a simple task, and yes, you'd need a reduction drive and other parts. Buying a used engine already built for ultralights would likely be less expensive than converting one yourself, unless you have a machine shop.

The very light trikes like the North Wing soaring trike, use smaller engines than snowmobiles, though... around 25-30HP.
