What is the adapter or extender called that you use to pull a childs bike behind an adults?

I saw this once before on a website, I cannot remember the correct name so I'm not searching correctly.

It was simply a long metal piece that hooks to both bikes, therefore no need to buy a bike w/ the 1 wheel & adapter.

Not this:

"TUG" Trailer

when towing my travel trailer i find it is very hard to get over 55 mph?

i think it has more to do with the wind resistance then weight, the trailer only weighs 1000 pounds but its an old boxy travel trailer. i am towing it with a ford ranger, the ranger has a 3.0 V6 engine, it has no trouble pulling it around but as i said after about 55 miles per hour i have to be on the gas constantly to keep up to speed.
my question is is this hurting my truck? i never run the rpms high when towing but i can definitely tell I'm towing something. is it normal to be able to feel the trailer tugging and pushing and for it to cause a reduction in speed?
as far as stopping it only adds about 3 feet to my stopping distance when going 55 miles per hour and slamming on the breaks so i know its not too heavy for my truck, i am concerned about the strain of towing it against all that wind drag.

a v-6 doesn't really have enough umph to tow 1000 lbs,

a few more things to check would be tire pressure, if they are low and not up to regs then you are actually "dragging" the trailer and not towing it,
any trailer should follow behind and roll easily if tires are inflated properly

Also make sure wheel bearings are properly greased, if they are a little dry, then you'll be dragging again,

Do you have the right hitch and tow bars? If you have the equalizer hitch and bars then that helps keep truck and trailer at level and not rear of truck and tongue of trailer dropped down

Do you have the brake control in your pickup? If the trailer is equipped then they may be dragging and causing you to not build speed
