2005 Subaru Forester: check-eng light on steady, cruise light flashing; what does this mean!?
Have had the car about 2.5 years; never seen this before. But while we usually fill up with non-ethanol premium, it was running a tank of ethanol when this happened (in case that might make a difference).

I meant a 10% ethanol blend.
With the cruise light flashing, the cruise does not work; that's why I'm wondering if it has something to do with the cruise.
But I'm heading out to get the code read now. Just wanted to see if any other Subaru owners may have experienced this.
The Check engine light is on because of an issue with one of the emissions related sensors in the car. The cruise flashes for whatever reason on all the drive by wire cars whenever the CEL comes on so there is no issue with the cruise, that's just how they both come on. As far as why it came on, do you mean you filled with a 10% ethanol blend? That's pretty much all you can get in most of the country here so it should not be an issue. Go somewhere to have the code read and that will tell you exactly what caused it. If by a tank of ethanol you mean all ethanol, then there is not enough energy in ethanol to run it on the factory tune. That would be the issue and could have caused some permanent damage.
