Designs Five Is it a bad idea to use chicago screws to bind a book that is five inches thick?
I am building my portfolio for graphic design and I am considering using the chicago screw bookbinding technique. I have enough pages to fill a five inch binder. Is it possible to use the chicago screws to bind it and still be able to easily turn the pages?
I am sure everyone will end up bring in 3 ring binders. I want mine to stand out. That's why I am interested in the chicago screws.
It is for my end of year sophomore review at school. It's for a scholarship.
It will be tougher to flip through than with a ring binder.
With this sort of presentation, it is crucial that it looks professional. What method do other people use? If you are just beginning in the field, it would might be a bad idea to be too 'out there'.

Where can i learn to build a propeller(besides libary) and out of what material and how and why it works? I need to design a wind propeller and make blades i can attach to a standard cd. The best place to learn how to design a propeller is off of existing ones! (especially since it looks more like you're in a science class/electrical engineering course than mechanical engineering, which is who actually spents time doing the formula for the design).
Odds are your speeds will be quite low so you'll want to minimize weight. When designing you also need to maximize surface area and include some sort of curvature to the blades to increase the energy brought in by them...
I'd personally suggest using paper mache around a 2-liter bottle to make the blades. Make sure they are all uniform and as thin as you can make them. It might take a few tries to get thin ones.
After that just connect them to a central hub and then to your compact disc motor.
You might also try some construction paper/cereal box paper cut out into close to the right shape.
