Every airplane in the US Navy are capable of performing automatic landings. The system is called ACLS (Auto Carrier Landing System). In fact the ACLS system was so good that the aircraft carriers were starting to get fatigue cracks on the landing surface because the airplane landed in almost the exact same sport each and every time...so the engineers had to add so error into the system so the landing impact would be spread out over several feet.

Flight testing started in 1996 and ended in 1999. The Super Hornet aircraft model testing involved 3,100 test flights covering 4,600 flight hours. The aircraft passed the Navy's operational tests and evaluations in February 2000, and has replaced the A-6 Intruder, S-3 Viking and KA-6D. The Super Hornet model is capable of performing a broad spectrum of roles, including day/night strikes with precision-guided weapons, anti-air warfare, fighter escort, reconnaissance, forward air control, close air support, suppression of enemy air defense (SEAD), maritime strike and air-to-air refueling. The Navy's Strike Fighter Squadron 115 was the first unit to bring their Super Hornets to combat. The Hornet fighter jet model, on November 6, 2002, in support of Operation Southern Watch, two F/A-18Es conducted a "Response Option" strike on two surface-to-air missile launchers at Al Kut and an air defense command and control bunker at Tallil Air Base. It was the first time 2,000-lb JDAM bombs were dropped from the F/A-18E in wartime. The Super Hornet military model flew close air support, strike, escort SEAD and aerial refueling roles during Operation Iraqi Freedom. What makes the F/Af 18 Super Hornet better than the F/A 18 Hornet? It uses different engines, but is bigger, heavier and slower than the original Hornet. What makes it so good that the RAAF is spending $6 billion on it?
The new engines are more powerful, and have something around 2,000kg more thrust. But it has an extra at least 3,000kg to cart around, an extra 9,000kg when its fully loaded. How does this extra power make it better when its slower? I understand more weapons though, and the 2 seats like the retiring F-111
