Tesla Coil Help with Tesla Coil math formulas please?
I already have the Tesla Coil. I want to measure the inductance of the secondary coil. Can I do that without using my Fluke LCR Meter? I have also an volt/ohm meter from Radio Shack. I think there's some math formulas I remember from elctronics classes where you can find other ways around using the LCR meter. If you can't do it one way, you can do it another?
What is your operating frequency? Because I have an idea, and you will need the components and meters described below. Choose a frequency which is at that operating frequency.

Have a collection of resistors ready. You can get lots of them in variety kits at the same place you mentioned, Radio Shack.
Is that other meter an AC voltmeter? You will need one.
Now apply about 10 VAC or so across a resistor and the coil in series.
The AC voltmeter will measure the voltage across the resistor. Then do the inductor.
This is trial and error, adjust or change the resistor value until the two voltages are equal.
The formula you are probably thinking about is:
XL = R = 2 π f L
XL is inductive reactance
R is the resistance
f is frequency
L is inductance
π of course is pi

What's The Difference Between A Tesla Coil And An Ordinary Transformer? - How To Create Free Energy To Power Your Home
I just got a mini-lecture from my high-school physics teacher about Tesla Coil and air-cored resonant transformer. But I just can't understand what he says...I only understand the ordinary step-up or step-down transformer. So, can anyone make it clear...what's the difference between a Tesla coil and an ordinary transformer?

NB: Do not use "extravagant" or "high-level" words...because my vocabulary is not that good, use "everyday" English if you can... An ordinary air core transformer has a pair of interwoven coils and when a changing current is forced in one of the pair another current is created in the other coil because the first makes a changing magnetic field which always makes a changing current in any wires in the field. The currents are tightly coupled, meaning one increases or decreases closely with the other.
A Tesla coil circuit plays games with the coils by adding capacitors and operating at high frequency with the result that the voltage in the second set of coils is much higher than is created by the ratio of the number of coils (and the current much lower.) This very high voltage shows as sparks.
One sloppy analogy might be that if you push a baby in a small baby swing you normally have to keep your hands on the seat and keep pushing or it stops pretty quickly. But if you are on an outside swing, you can give a push at just the right moment and speed and get the swing higher and higher. The Tesla coil uses a capacitor with the coils to give that kick at just the right time to boost the voltage.

Fuel Artificial Should current crude oil prices really be that high?

You don't have to have a fancy metal dome or torus for the coil to work.
My coil just has the end-wire of the secondary coil sticking up above the top of the PVC tube end-cap. Sparks fly off the tip of the wire just as effectively as they would from a metal sphere.
I can always add a spherical dome or torus to my Tesla coil at a later time. You can do the same.
