Recording police events?

I always see videos on the net where the police are telling bystanders to turn off their video cameras during a traffic stop or whatever. Sometimes the officer gets angry and threaten the camera person and appear that they are going to take physical action to prevent themselves from being taped.
If the officer acts appropriately then what would they have to be afraid of? Most cruisers are equipped with a dashboard camera and audio anyways.
The reason I ask, is that I was thinking of installing a few cameras and a microphone in my car and recording the video to a PC installed in the trunk. I would use it mainly at the race track.
If I was pulled over could the officer demand I turn off the video recording..assuming he notices? Maybe its playing on the TV in the dash or something. What might be the consequences if I refuse?

They film us, we can film them. What do they have to hide? check out the video.

Suggestions for a medium quality camcorder for in-car use?

I'm looking to make fast action films in my Honda S2000 and there are a few requirements I have:
1. It must be mountable (able to accept a tripod)
2. Video quality must be capable of handling high speeds (no chopiness, high refresh rate, very stable picture)
3. Video quality must be able to deal with outdoor conditions (sudden shifts in light like entering a tunnel on a sunny day, decent visibility in rain, etc)
4. It must have a good quality audio input (I plan on using a microphone near the engine bay, btw any recommendations there would be handy as well)
5. Software (something simple, no gimmicky formats, something that would work on YouTube and a HDTV)
6. Price (no higher than $800, will consider factory refurb)
7. Durability (I'm thinking Sony. Thoughts?)

Any and all suggestions are welcome. Thanks in advance for your thoughts.

The least expensive video cameras with audio input and manual audio control are the Canon HV20, HV30, Sony HDR-HC7 and HC9. If you use an XLR mic, you will need an adapter like those from BeachTek or juicedLink. All can mount to a tripod. All have manual and auto iris and exposure. "Refresh Rate" does not apply to camcorders. These can all shoot in standard definition or high definition modes. Their low-light capabilities are OK, but nothing to scream about. No camcorder comes with good bundled software. Sony Vegas Platinum or Apple FinalCut are suggested (depending on your computer editing environment).

The next camcorders that would do better in low-light are the Canon XHA1, Sony HDR-FX1 or HVR-Z1U. They are outside your budget.

Decision to join the RAF to become a pilot?

Following my last question about which route I should take to become a pilot... If I was to join the RAF then:

A) What are the chances of becoming a pilot? Is it a rare chance to pass through the selection process?

B) On the chance of being accepted, do you have the choice between Fixed wing, cargo and rotary or are you automatically selected?

C) You proceed through the selection process of the RAF for a pilot and are rejected, do you have to carry on with service to the RAF? Or can you leave if you do not succeed in the selection process?

Any help on this would be much appreciated. A lot of people have told me that the RAF is the better route than going commercial?

Kind regards,
JMM

A - the selection process is tough, remember you will be expected to be a leader of men and ambassador to this country above being a pilot. Pilot is only your role within the RAF

B - your training route will reflect your ability - only the cream become Fighter pilots

C - you will be offered another non-flying trade, but you will be free to resign your commission should you wish to do so. The RAF don't like this, so to minimise the chances of it happening they only choose the best at the recruitment stage.

That's only the bad news - go for it if you want it enough!

Only Angels Have Wings

Only Angels Have Wings

$10.39

Virtually a textbook example of Howard Hawks' "macho" mode, Only Angels Have Wings takes place high in the Peruvian Andes. Cary Grant heads a ramshackle airmail and freight service, forced to fly in the most perilous of weather conditions to the most treacherous of destinations. Facing death on a near-hourly basis, Grant and his flyers have adopted a casual, all-in-day's-work attitude towards mortality. If a pilot cracks up and dies, it's simply because he didn't have what it took, and that's that. Stranded showgirl Jean Arthur can't stand this cavalier attitude at first, but before long she becomes, in true Hawksian fashion, "one of the guys". Complicating the story is the presence of Richard Barthelmess, who has been persona non grata with the other pilots ever since his carelessness cost the life of one of their number. In addition to a surfeit of guilt, Barthelmess is saddled with a faithless wife, played by Rita Hayworth in her first important A-picture role. Hayworth makes a play for Grant, but he spurns her, finally realizing that, in spite of himself, he's in love with Arthur. Grant himself is riddled with guilt when near-blind pilot Thomas Mitchell insists upon taking on one final flight. Having lost his best friend, Grant drops his hard-bitten shell, and for the first time opens himself up emotionally to Arthur-which of course leads to a nail-biting climax wherein Arthur suffers mightily as Grant faces certain death. Scripted by Jules Furthman from a story by Hawks, Only Angels Have Wings is a treasure trove of terse, pithy dialogue: our favorite scene occurs when, upon discovering that he's about to die, Thomas Mitchell says he's often wondered how he'd react to imminent death-and, now that death is but a few moments away, he'd rather that no one else be around to witness his reaction. Though sometimes laid low by obvious miniatures, the aerial scenes in Only Angels Have Wings are by and large first-rate, earning a first-ever "best special effects" Oscar nomination for Roy Davidson and Edwin C. Hahn. ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi

Silent Wings-American Glider Pilot

Silent Wings-American Glider Pilot

$21.21

Join narrator Hal Holbrook as he examines the crucial role that gliders played in World War II offensives in this documentary that follows the history of the glider from the race to master the sky to the beaches of Normandy and Germany's last stand. In order to emerge victorious in battle, it was crucial that pilots be able to deliver weapons and munitions deep into enemy territory. Unarmed cargo gliders provided the ideal means of accomplishing this lofty goal, and the 6,000 American volunteers who volunteered to pilot these vehicles would repeatedly risk their lives flying in the hostile territory under the most treacherous conditions. Frequently carrying out their missions in the dead of night, these brave souls would take to the skies with no motor to propel them, no landmarks to guide them, and no parachutes to ensure their safety. ~ Jason Buchanan, All Movie Guide Entertainment Company Entertainment Company

WWII Pilot Gets Her Wings

What is the minimum years of military service as a Marine Officer?

To be more specific, what is the minimum service for an aviation pilot in fixed-wing aircraft?
I heard it was 20 years minimum and I just want to confirm if it's true.

20 years is the minimum for retirement. I'd assume about 6 years is the norm for doing your time and then getting out, if that is what you're asking.

Not 100% sure though.
