UPS FLIGHT 6 (Air Crashes: Tributes Season 1, Episode 3)
AVionics Service About to leave for Navy boot camp, but have bad credit. How will this affect me?
I got involved with a girl a couple of years ago and disregarded all of my credit card bills. Now I'm playing catch up. I've been slowly paying off my bad credit through credit agencies now for the past two years.
I've already signed my contract for the Navy and will be leaving for boot camp in July. I've researched and read that bad credit will affect my career in the military. I passed the security background check and received a pretty good job offer, Avionics Technician. What I'm worried about is will this bite me in the butt later on after boot camp or worse during boot camp?
My Uncle who was in the service for approximately 24 years made the comment that "you don't want the military to find out you have bad credit." So now I'm worried. I notified the classifier, the guy who assigns jobs, about the bad debt and I was still offered the above job. I'm just freaking out.
Thanks for your help.
Dude, don't worry.. this is ridiculous... they don't care one bit that your credit is bad... just work off the bills while in bootcamp and get it all straight...
The only time bad credit might even come into play would be if you went for a way higher officer position... they don't care about an enlisted members finance except to make sure you are a good sailor and do what is right now...
And congratulations on your commitment! Serve Proud

The Federal Aviation Administration`s Advanced Avionics Handbook is a critical tool for anyone seriously interested in flying modern airplanes. As modern technology continues to revolutionize the science of flight, it is the responsibility of every pilot, student, and flight engineer to be up to date on the most advanced avionics equipment available. This easy to read handbook introduces pilots and other readers to flight operations in aircrafts with the latest integrated "glass cockpit" advanced avionics systems.
Please note that the content of this book primarily consists of articles available from Wikipedia or other free sources online. Specialized Aviation Service Operations (SASO) are defined by the Federal Aviation Administration as singleservice providers or special Fixed Based Operators performing less than full services. These types of companies differ from a full service FBO in that they typically offer only a specialized aeronautical service such as aircraft sales, flight training, aircraft maintenance, or avionics services for example. Providing aviators with comprehensive information on the advanced avionics equipment available in technically sophisticated aircraft, this FAA handbook covers a wide range of subjects about the essentials of operating cockpit-computers, including data entry, primary flight display (PFD), multi-function display (MFD), moving maps, traffic data, fuel management systems, electronic charts and checklists, common pilot errors and instrument failures, and more. Each phase of flight is covered, ensuring readers will know how to execute departure, en route, and approach procedures using glass cockpit instrumentation. Essential skills checklists and summaries conclude each chapter for a complete review and quick-check reference.
Integrated Modular Avionics (IMA), Distributed IMA (DIMA), and Modular Certification are widely discussed approaches in the aerospace community at the moment. IMA deals with the idea of sharing hardware resources and integrating several aircraft functions into one hardware unit to reduce weight, space, cabling, power consumption and costs. DIMA architectures provide more flexibility to the used hardware by splitting it up into several smaller units, distributed all over the aircraft and connected by a safetycritical communication system. Modular Certification uses the modularity provided by those systems to split their certification into several parts, which reduces development time and effort. Based on these prerequisites, the concept of a distributed and integrated platform solution is introduced. It defines the constraints and services needed for implementing a modular certifiable and flexible platform, which is able to handle all safetycritical functions in an aircraft. This book discusses the platforms attributes and certification demands, identifies its requirements and constraints and considers its applications and business opportunities. The other day I was watching Air Emergency on Nat Geo, and the airplane did an emergency on open land. It said it was moving at around 120 mph when it landed? Well my question is why did the pilot decided to land without landing gears? Are they afraid the plane might keep rolling and hit resident areas? because to me landing regular or emergency landing with gears is smoother than landing with the belly of the plane. Can anyone tell me why they didn't use landing gears when the pilots did a crash landing in open land?
Yes people, please stop giving thumbs down to people answering my question.
On prepared or hard surfaces the landing gear may be lowered. On other plain surfaces, however, a belly landing is advised since is provides the full lower surface of the aircraft to come in contact with the ground and spread its weight over a larger area thereby precluding chances if it sinking into the soil. Landing with gear down would make the aircraft to dig into the ground and cartwheel on its nose with disastrous results.
