For all Metal Gear Solid Fans! I need help!?

I am a huge Metal Gear Solid fan and I always wanted to know something. I have just recently bought the Metal Gear Solid: The Essential Collection and now, of course, own all the games in the series. This is my question: how should I play the games? I know that the order in which the story goes is:
MGS3, MGS Portable Ops, MG, MG2, MGS, MGS2 & MGS4

But should I play the game in this order or play it as it was released? (i.e.: MGS, MGS 2, MGS 3…etc.)
(Excluding MGS Portable Ops and Metal Gear because I don’t own a PSP and don’t own Metal Gear)

I think it'd be fun to play is the order that the story goes.
Thats what I plan to do when my BF is done with his Essential Collection.
