Crew Record Logbook
The Mary Celeiste,What happened?

We all know the story, boat was found drifting!.All the tables were set for dinner+the last record in the captains logbook had been weeks before!.Plus the ship had sailed hundreds of miles, without any crew atall?.

The Bermuda Triangle is far far away from the ships route. There were no submarines or sea monsters reported active in the area.

It was a short voyage, with a good captain and first officer, a cook and four professional seamen, who were there by choice. A mutiny is, therefore, not likely. The cargo was not of high value or one that could be disposed of easily, and under the circumstances it is unlikely that an insurance fraud was involved.
If the food on board was contaminated, this would have been quickly discovered, and the onward voyage to Italy was uneventful.

The theory at that time was that the Captain and crew may have abandoned ship because they thought she was about to sink.
The court considered that an error in sounding the pump may have indicated she was taking on water, or the cargo being flammable and explosive may have frightened them.

Possible reasons may be that Captain Briggs had never carried alcohol before, and may have been nervous about doing so, being an abstainer. It should be stressed, however, that the alcohol carried was of a strength and type that would not be palatable to drink. I have sampled comparable alcohol. Its potential for explosions exceeds its quality as a drink.

An interesting explanation is The Seaquake theory by Captain Williams. He has a lot of information, and a very well presented website.
An earthquake may not be such a new idea, though, as in a letter from the Servico Meteorologico Açores in reply to an inquiry from Charles Edey Fay, they conclude "There was no record of any earthquake." so this question must have been considered, and rejected in 1942.

On 9th August 2001 strong media attention was given to the story that the wreck of the 'Mary Celeste' had been located by Clive Cussler, representing the National Underwater & Marine Agency, (NUMA) and John Davis, president of ECO-NOVA Productions of Canada.
The location of the wreck was well documented, and the scientific value of the find perhaps questionable. Given the detail of the investigation in Gibraltar and the fact that she was in service for a number of years subsquently it is unlikely to yield any new information regarding the original mystery.

However, what would be interesting would be if this inspired one of the television stations, like the BBC, National Geographic, or Discovery Channel to commission a documentary recreating the voyage of the 'Mary Celeste' - always providing the film crew do not vanish without trace, this could finally answer some of the questions.

High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles A logbook was originally a book for recording readings from the log, and is used to determine the distance a ship traveled within a certain amount of time. The readings of the log have been recorded in equal times to give the distance traveled with respect to a given start position. Todays ships log has grown to contain many other types of information, and is a record of operational data relating to a ship or submarine, such as weather conditions, times of routine events and significant incidents, crew complement or what ports were docked at and when. It is essential to traditional navigation, and must be filled in at least daily. Most National shipping authorities and Admiralties specify that logbooks are kept to provide a record of events, and to help crews navigate should radio, radar or the GPS fail. Examination of the detail in a ships log is often an important part of the investigative process for official maritime inquiries, in much the same way as a black box is used on airplanes see Mary Celeste. Logbook entries are sometimes of great importance in legal cases involving maritime commercial disputes.
