Custom Made Mile

Why does my computer think that I live in a city about 75 miles from where I really live?

I live in a small town, but my computer thinks that I live in another small town about 75 miles away from my home. This town is a few miles away from some larger towns that I don't need to visit because I myself don't live near them. However, all of the "custom-made" ads mention those irrelevant cities instead of one that's actually close to where I live (of course, the upside is, fewer chances of getting a virus). Still, I find it so annoying that my computer keeps on getting this information wrong. What causes things like this to happen, and is there any way I can change it? By the way, I believe that this also happens on another computer in my home, so it doesn't seem like an infected hard drive or anything like that. Thanks in advance.

Because your provider has the segment you're connected to listed as being in that town - which it probably is. It starts there, then runs out to other towns, including yours. (It has nothing to do with getting a virus.)
