Having a hard time finding new models of rugged cell phones?

I have had the Verizon G'zone Model R (casio) for 2.5+ years and would like to upgrade to another model. This phone is everything I want, except that it just loses reception in multiple places. I don't think I've ever had more than 1 bar anywhere. Many of the rugged phones I wanted seemed to be available in japan 3-4 years ago but never made it here. Any suggestions? I could switch service but would prefer not to. Also not looking to break the bank (i've seen some $400 phones that are cool, but not necessary).

Prefer military specs, but also not necessary. Would like electronic compass, thermometer, waterproof, shock proof, damage proof, etc. Having trouble finding the G'zone Boulder or model V...
