Engine Cooling Fan

I have a 1986 Nissan Maxima and the engine cooling fan won't shut off. What could be the problem?
That can happen if your coolant temp sensor becomes unplugged.

Engine Cooling Fan Motor Removal
What could cause my engine to keep running cold and cooling fan always on?
What would keep the engine running cold in a 96 Pontiac sunfire? I have changed the thermostat and the cooling system is free of air bubbles. The car does heat up inside but not that hot. When the car is in driving mode the temperature gauge inside the car drops below well below normal or when at idle is only creeps up above the 1/4 on the gauge.
1. a faulty Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor ?
2. a bad relay for the cooling fan?
3. or both?
or is there something else i am missing, thankyou
it seems like you may have several conditions here.
1. if the car is not getting warm in the passenger compartment you could have a plugged heater core (try a reverse flush of the heater core)or the controls are not opening the air deflector.
2. what is the temp of the t'stat and what is recommended by the manufacturer.
3. what is the actual temp of the running coolant? (you can use a thermometer to check this. turn off the engine and pull the radiator cap. start the engine and let the car run to operating temp. check the thermometer against the reading on the dash.) or if you have access to a GM Tech2 scanner it will read it for you.
the cooling fan has constant power on 1 line. the fan is turned on when the temp sensor in the head (which is a thermistor or variable resistor) closes the ground. This is normally turned on at about 210 degrees. don m
