Taking apart an engine?

How do you take apart an engine in a junkyard with nothing more than basic set of tools.

I don't care if I screw something up since I'm planning to make a coffee table out of the engine block. I just need to know whats the best way of going about and doing it.

I'm probably going to go for a Volvo I5 block since that best fits my coffee table plans.

ask them to remove it for you and drain all the fluids. it requires too many tools you don't have, like a transmission jack and impact gun along with the requisite air compressor and generator. actually if you ask for just the engine block, many places will already do that for the price quoted for an engine.

in a 1986 volvo 240, can a diesel engine be mounted in place of an original gas engine?

1986 Volvo 240 DL with 6 (maybe 4?) cylinder gasoline engine. Want to use for biodiesel application. if possible, what tools are needed and how much up front cost to convert car to a diesel? thanks

Y`know, it depends on what Diesel engine you are about to put in it!

Volvo had a 6cyl Diesel from that era already, made by VW, that would be kinda easy.

But shoehorning in a different model engine has been done before, not just with Volvos...
