Information regarding the FAA AT-SAT.?

I am looking for as much information as possible regarding the structure of the AT-SAT test. I know the test is on a computer and all sections including the scan, angles, math, and dials, etc. I am looking for additional information. While studying for the test, with the Air Traffic Control Career Prep book and using the CDROM that comes with it, I am wondering if this book really prepares you for the test. On the math part do you need to know all types of conversions like feet to miles and km to feet...etc like it is on the CD ROM or is it like the book with basic conversions like minutes to hours? Also is each question timed like the CD-ROM? Is there any thing the book doesn't prepare you for? I appreciate any additional information that will prepare me for this exam. Thanks!

The prep your using is like swinging a weighted bat. It'll feel hard and almost impossible, btu when you get down and dirty with the AT SAT, the at sat will feel oh so easy. No conversions other than minutes to hours...1000 feet per minute in 3 minutes = 3,000 feet etc. The book prepares for everything except the length and repetition.

Its an aptitude test. Get there well rested. You know what to expect and you'll be amazed how much easier the real deal is.

I took that same prep and figured I was going to barely pass if at all based on what I saw. Came to take the real thing and scored something like a 99. Have fun with it, be relaxed and well rested. I actually enjoyed letter factory and the AT basic low fi sim.

A&P License Issues?

I am working on my A&P License. I am kind of lost about it though. I Live in Central Georgia and I guess I have to get "permission to test" from the FAA before I can take the prep course for the class. I have been in acft mx for about 6 years and I am elegible for both airframe and powerplant because I am in the US Air Force as a 7 Level Heavy Crew Chief. (2A571)

I have looked at the FAA site and have no idea where to go to get the permission to test that is close to Macon, Georgia?

What is the cost of the permission?

Do I take the written and practical at the same place?

How much is the exams?

Any more info will be very helpful.

The best thing you can do is to contact your local FSDO. I'm not ex-military, but my understanding is that you will have to have military records of your training and experience. A phone book, or the FAA web-site should be able to give you the address and phone number for your local FSDO. You can take the written and O&P tests in the same place, depending on where that is. My suggestion is, with military background you probably will need to freshen up on the FAA Regulations, more than any aircraft knowledge, as you already have that. I went there for some testing, and they will give you a prep course, and let you do all of your testing in one place. It will cost a little more, but well worth it, and you're more likely to pass. Most DMEs work for Part 147 schools, and ask a tremendous amount of piston/general aviation questions. Although this is knowledge you will need to know, it's most likely not your background, and you're best to go to a prep course. Also, the FAA web-site will be able to give you a list of DMEs (Designated Maintenance Examiners) for your area. The local FSDO (usually a PMI, or Primary Maintenance Inspector) can sign you off on a Form 8110 if your military experience and documents meet their requirements. It should cost nothing. Good luck!
