If you haven't seen it, it was a satirical commercial with the "Green Police", they arrest anyone using plastic bags, Styrofoam cups, incandescent bulbs, using too much electricity or NOT helping the environment.

First, these so called "scientists" came up with the theory that the Earth isn't flat and that the Sun doesn't revolve around the earth. All we have to do is look out the window and watch the sun rise and set to know this isn't true. Yet, scientists have continued to come up with even more absurd theories such as the theory of evolution, the theory of acid rain, the theory that smoking causes cancer, and most recently the theory of global warming.

Benevolent oil companies, conservative politicians, columnists, and religious leaders have demonstrated that these theories are have no basis in fact and that the fear they are creating threatens not only our freedom and economic well being, but our way of life. Indeed, a quick search of the internet shows that global warming "scientists" have already limited peoples' freedom to sell incandescent light bulbs and certain types of plastic bags.

What I want to know is what drives scientists to come up with and support these "theories"?
