Looks Great Jeeps
185,000 miles on a well kept Jeep?
I am thinking of buying a used Jeep. It looks great,obviously well kept,but it has 185,000 miles. realistically, how long would it keep running?
1986 cj series
Is it the Inline 6 cyl. engine? If it is that thing is bullet proof and will run forever. If it's the four cyl it's ok. If it's the V6 I would do some more research about that year... There were some V6 engines Jeep produced during that time that had some problems...
If it's the Inline 6 and it is running good right now at 185k, you could probably get 250k - 300k out of it. By running good, I mean, not burning oil, clean looking engine, no odd sounds, no rough shifting... You shouldn't have any trouble.
That said, there is going to be things that need to be replaced. You just have to make sure you fix everything when it first presents, and not wait to fix it.

How much is too much mileage when buying a used car?
I have about 6500 to spend on a used car. I'm looking at Jeep Liberty or Ford Mustang. I found a 2005 Jeep Liberty with 91,000 miles on it. It has a 3.7 V6, and it looks great. Is that too much mileage? What is the most amount of mileage I should consider when buying a used car? Also, I found a 2000 Mustang with low miles, but it is ten years old, should I consider that one?
With american cars, their quality and depenendance decrease after 100,000 miles. So about over 130,000-150,000 miles....anymore than that and you''re looking at a piece of $hit.
Always use the milage to you advantage. Year & milage are key factor on how good in shape the car is and will be in the future.
Never buy any American car over 150,000 miles. They start to fail on you.
