Logging hours in ultralight aircraft?
I was wondering if you are able to log hours that count towards your FAA requirements in an ultralight aircraft? I am currently 17 years old and planning to obtain my PPL, but was wondering if i can do so, i might just buy one since they are so cheap. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated!
Hmm, I doubt logging hours in an Ultralight would count towards a General Aviation license. You get credit for the hours nontheless, but they're not applicable to a GA license due to the fact that a true UL is an UNlicensed aircraft. And doesn't operate exactly the same way as a heavier aircraft does.
BTW, let me know where you can buy "cheap" UL aircraft...I want one! Unless you're a Beemer-drivin' rich-boy , I don't know of many ULs under 7-8k except used myself, and I can't afford even those. Even 2k would be a big stretch for me these days. I need a better career...or a bigger (silver) spoon...

What is the weight restriction for a ultralight aircraft in the uk?
I am thinking of building an ultralight helicopter but i need to know how heavy i can build it
Well, I'm in the U.S., but I did a quick lookup, and according to the Australia Ultralight Federation:
"An ultralight aircraft is a fixed wing powered aeroplane that weighs no more than 480 kg, fully loaded for take off including the pilot, fuel and passenger (if permitted). Within that broad description, there are five main subgroups, commonly referred to by their Civil Aviation Order (CAO) definition.
95.10
This is the category for the true enthusiast, and the experimenter. Single seat home built non-certificated aircraft, limited to a Maximum Take Off Weight (MTOW) of 300 kg. These uncertified aircraft come in a wide range of designs and technology. In the early days both kit and fully built aircraft were accepted for registration, but the Order currently states that aircraft must be owner designed and built to be acceptable. Amendments to the rules are being proposed which will allow the use of commercial kits and plans.
