Ultralight Trike

What do i have to do in order to solo a trike ultralight such as age, flight instruction etc...?
What do i have to do in order to solo a trike ultralight such as age, flight instruction etc...
I only know about the United States... every country has different regulations concerning ultralights. The U.S. has some of the most lax laws... there is no age requirement and there is no requirement for flight instruction. If you want, and are stupid enough to try, you can hop in an ultralight and take it around the patch tomorrow. Scary stuff. These aircraft aren't even registered.
Honestly, unless you're a licensed pilot I highly recommend shying away from ultralights. But, if you're dead set on flying one without a pilots license-- there are some ultralights designed for 2 people (they can only be used as trainers... normal ultralights hold a max of 1 individual)- you and pilot who will train you to fly them (although keep in mind they technically don't need to have any training either). good luck, and be careful if you decide to pursue this hobby.

Ultralight trike summer fun 2008
Were can i buy an ultralight?
Were can i buy an ultralight? one like a trike, new or old. just has to be the kind that has the v shape wings
thanks Guys and Gals!
Well, I wouldn't go to Walmart. Hmmm...let's see....who would sell ultralights or where would I look?
1) The manufacturers? Nah, they wouldn't think of listing dealers and distributors on their websites.
2) Ultralight flying clubs? Nah, Their members wouldn't ever utilize their internet bulletin boards or newsletters for advertising used ultralights.
3) Ultralight and Sport Aircraft magazines? Nah, they'd never think of having display advertising or classifieds sections where people could advertise the aircraft they would like to sell.
4) The phone book yellow pages? Nah, who uses those old things any more?
5) Newspapers or "Craigs List"? Couldn't be possible.
6) Major aviation websites like Barnstormers? Nah, they only deal with "real" airplanes.
Nope. Can't think of anyplace. Guess you'll have to try Walmart.
( If you can't even put the terms - ultralight - aircraft - "for sale" - in your search box I'd say your chance of learning to fly one aren't too great either. Here, I'll help you: http://www.google.com/search?q=ultralight+aircraft+%22for+sale%22&sourceid=ie7&rls=com.microsoft:en-us:IE-SearchBox&ie=&oe=&rlz=1I7RNTN_en).

In the US, you don't need any kind of pilot certificate to fly an ultralight (unlike in the UK where a license is required as Sarah said). This does not, however, mean you can just fly one without any training.. training isn't required legally, but it is required if you want to live.
New trikes start at around $8000 for the lightest "soaring trikes", up to many times that for the larger fancier ones. As soon as it has two seats, though, it's no longer an ultralight and must be registered, and you then need a pilot certificate, etc. It's possible to register an ultralight but then it's no longer an ultralight and is governed by different rules. Ultralights can't fly over congested areas, at night, and into some airports; operating as a registered aircraft avoids these limitations.
Any flat space, grass, gravel, dirt, or pavement, will do, though most people still operate from airports. How much space is required depends on the aircraft, usually a few hundred feet (more if it's surrounded by tall trees).
Kits can be a good option if you have reasonable mechanical skills to build it. Used is OK too, if you know what you're buying or have a knowledgeable person inspect it for you.
BTW "trikes" are just one of many types of ultralight aircraft, which also include 3-axis airplanes, powered paragliders, powered parachutes, gliders, hang gliders, and more.
