Going Airborne(101st)- Army?

After BCT, I think I would be interested in going airborne. Do I get to pick if I want to go to the 101st? As a 25Uniform(Signal Support Specialist), what would i be doing in an airborne unit? As a 25Bravo(Information Technology Specialist), what would I be doing in an airborne unit? Which MOS would I be more likely to go on patrols? Are there more 25U slots available than 25B? Are there any Airborne units in Germany? Btw I meet all the requirements to join the Army, including ASVAB scores and im going Active Duty, I leave for basic in about 1 1/2 months.

If you didn't sign yet, get airborne in your contract. That will guarantee you get airborne school, and most likely an airborne unit. But the 101st is air assault, not airborne. The 82nd is the main one, and then there is group which requires airborne as well. You dont get to pick where you get stationed though. And if you dont have AB in your contract, as a 25 series, you probably wont get it either. Most units that 25 series go to don't need airborne commo's.

How were the engines cooled on the ill fated dirigibles R101 and Hindenburg?

The engines on both air ships were of diesel technology. I know of no other aircraft that employed this approach. Normal pistoned power aircraft engines are air cooled. Diesel engines are best suited for ground applications where power is needed at a constant RPM moving heavy materials over a relatively long period. Ground Diesels run very hot and are liquid cooled by a radiator and are hence very heavy. I can't imagine the airborne diesels to be either air or liquid cooled. What techniques were applied to the airship applications?

I believe the zeppelin engines were water cooled. These air ships could lift a great deal of weight and the heavy engines would not have been a big problem.
