How do you put the Whirlpool Duet WFW9400 into demo mode?

I recently purchased a pair and I am unable to get the unit into demo mode. Anyone know?

Possibly because you do not know the proper codes to do it.... A homeowner that has this code can be the repairman's worst nightmare, so they do not tell you what the code is... If you REALLY need to know, call Whirlpool at the 800 # in your paperwork and as them!!! Have your model # ready to give them as not every model has the same codes.....

How does an induction stove work?

the demo I saw on tv was not in full explanation because the demonstrator was not familiar with the physics involved. when a metal pan was put on the " burner" only the part where it touches got heated, the rest of the unit part stays cool. I suspect it has a lot to do with magnetic flux?

You are correct. That is why glass and ceramic pots will not work on them. Best is cast iron or steel. Aluminum will work but less effectively.
The other answer has a good analogy.
The stove has a coil through which an alternating current flows. This causes the atoms in the pan to vibrate heating the metal.
