can't find history of Native American WW2 glider pilots?

I was looking for my heritage when I learned that my Great-Uncle was a glider pilot in WW2. Now I'm searching history about what they went through, what they were called and to make sure that it really was a relative of mine. Any help you could give would be great.

Gliders were used during large scale operations with air borne divisions. A good example can be seen in the movie `a bridge too far´ about the landings in Arnhem, The Netherlands september 1944.
The pilots of the gliders were specially trained, they were not regular pilots who just stepped in the glider.

The glider planes were pulled by a normal plane and were released close to the landing zone. By doing so, one motorized plane could nearly double the number of man it transported.
The planes were landed in the field. The paratroops did not jump from gliders. These planes also carried jeeps and other heavier material. Since they actually landed, they could carry this heavy stuff, since it could of course not parachuted down.
