La Sylphide - $24.99 The Danish Royal Ballet mounted composer August Bournonville's infamous 1836 ballet La Sylphide - the oldest of his works still extant - with a cast that includes Lis Jeppesen in the title role, Nikolaj H?bbe as James, Sorella Englund as Madge and Kirsten Simone as Anna, and featuring choreography by August Bournonville; that production is now available in this home release. The work's (by-now-familiar) tragic fantasy-romance involves the plight of James, a Scottish farmer and husband-to-be who is entranced - on the night before his wedding - by a "Sylphide," or forest fairy. Over the course of the following day, the creature appears at various points to dance seductively before James, thus interrupting his wedding; when she steals James's wedding band, he ultimately chases her into the forest, jilting his bride, Effy, at the altar. He has clearly fallen in love with the creature, but tragedy shows its face when James places on the Sylphide's shoulders a scarf cursed by Madge, the forest witch. It is a fairly extensive base with 24 large revetments and over 30 small ones. It was home to 132 TBAP (132nd Heavy Bomber Aviation Regiment) which flew Tupolev Tu16 and Tupolev Tu22M aircraft. It was also a transport base with the 192 and/or 196 VTAP (Military Transport Aviation Regiment) flying Ilyushin Il76M cargo jets until 1990. These jets were relocated to Tver. By 1993 it was listed as a designated emergency airfield on a 1993 Jeppesen chart for airline use although this is no longer possible as the runway has various used car lots preventing use by planes. On 16 January 2006 the winning works of the international architecture competition held to design the new Estonian National Museum building were revealed.
