Gas turbine engines of aircrafts?
1)in miniature primitive GTE fuel combustion process is usually intiated from an external source, in more realistic GTE how is fuel combustion process initaied in engines.
2) in the rotation of the turbine-shaft-compressor blades-fans to produce thrust, is this process wholy as a result of fuel burning in the engines pushing it forward thererby producing the forward motion which therby turns the blades? if not. what is the process responsible for spining the blades as well as the shaft and compressors. i need more expansiation on this topic please.
in gas turbine engines the burning of fuel is continuous and not intermittent like IC engines.
the fuel is burnt in a in core and the Spark is initiated by a spark plug. there are two kind of burners like front side and backside burners and set of burners are arranged in circumferential direction. once flame is initiated the it burns continuously. when flame is off it is called flame out condition which leads to accident. but if flame goes off, they will again reignite park plug in wind mill starting method. i.e. done by lowering height of air plane. windmill starting is nothing but when engine turns off, its speed will start dipping so even again spark comes there won't be enough air for combustion to begin. so they will make the flight to come down in vertically downwards where nose faces ground which allows more air to flow into the engine and flame can be bought again. this can be done at 20,000 feet altitude. if it dips further to 2000 feet they will use alternative power unit to run the main engine until it attains self sustaining RPM. even if doesn't work jump out..lol..
working of gas turbine engine:
the whole power is produced by just burning of fuel.
the hot gas from combustion chamber expands in turbine to produce power which is used to drive thr compressor, fan and electrical generator. then the gas goea to exhaust nozzle where it expands fully to produce thrust which makes the flight to move forward. this is principle of turbojet engine. initially to start engine a small gasturbine engine calle alternative power unit is used to drive th compressor whic will drive the compressor until it achieves self sustaining RPM. then engine can run of it own. some air from compressor is bleeded out for environment control system and anti cooling circuits of wings and cooling of turbine blades.
so only the heat energy produced by fuel is used to produce all power

Flying Radio-controlled Model Aircraft (Paperback) $39.17 Flying radio-controlled model aircraft is one of the most enjoyable and absorbing hobbies that there is. It combines the fun of building and maintaining a real miniature aircraft with the challenge of flying it just like the real thing, and keeping the appropriate distance between the aircraft and the ground at all times! But the early stages of the hobby can be a steep learning curve, and it is all too easy to be put off by early mishaps. This book explains the principles of model flight in an easy-to-read text. It is a flight manual for any pilot of a fixed-wing model aircraft and includes details of internal combustion and electric-powered flight. It gives all the information required to become a successful pilot in the shortest possible time. |

Which primer for a plastic surface?
Hello everyone,
Though not an artist in the Picasso sense, I am a model artist; I paint model aircraft, cars and figurines (of all sizes, 6mm to 50mm). I'm looking for a new primer to be put into use, effective immediately. The following are considerations:
Gesso: can gesso be used on a plastic surface? I'm unsure whether or not my gesso is acrylic gesso or made of animal byproducts, but I am assuming it is the former: acrylic.
Would acrylic paints adhere to a gesso-covered plastic frame, such as a model car/plane? I've used gesso successfully on metal (25mm) miniatures but am unsure if I can replicate that success with plastics.
Enamel spraypaint: how about this? In some cases, but this is not always characteristic of enamel sprays, it can eat through plastic. Which is why I would first coat the model with future floor wax as a protective coat, then move to spray-down with the enamel.
Either of the two workable?
Thanks a bunch,
Av
I'd say option one AND two both sound workable.
I'd avoid the enamel spray....i don't reckon it'd do plastic much good - although your wax MIGHT work.
Why don't you do 'test' pieces.
You could use the surplice bits of frame-plastic, so that you're not damaging 'precious' model pieces.
Good Luck-sw
